The Folkwang Museum until 1933.
Paul J. Sachs, a future founder of the MoMa in New York, is the originator of the title, "The most beautiful museum in the World" which he affectionately called the just opened the Folkwang Museum.
Attempt to reconstruct
We leave you to decide whether the newly opened Folkwang Museum deserves this award again, but definitely recommend the exhibition of the same name is risked in an attempt at reconstruction.
Disaster in history
The Nazi madness, led to the works of great artists such as Henri Matisse and Max Beckmann- and other so-called "Degenerate Art" to be removed from the exhibition rooms. The work of the museum, so far advanced in its contemporary and modern art efforts in its original form, came to a halt.
A second chance
However, in 2010 the pictures of the past will return for a show after dinner, realized thanks to the successful partnership with E. ON Ruhrgas. Of 20 March to the 25th July 2010, you can once again "visit the most beautiful museum in the world" - of course in Essen, Germany, the European Capital of Culture!

Search Site![The coat of arms of the city of Essen is a heraldic peculiarity. Granted in 1886, it is a so-called Allianzwappen (arms of alliance) and consists of two separate shields under a single crown. Most other coats of arms of cities show a wall instead of a crown. The crown, however, does not refer to the city of Essen itself, but instead to the secularized ecclesiastical principality of Essen under the reign of the princess-abbesses. The dexter (heraldically right) escutcheon shows the double-headed Imperial Eagle of the Holy Roman Empire, granted to the city in 1623. The sinister (heraldically left) escutcheon is one of the oldest emblems of Essen and shows a sword that people believed was used to behead the city's patrons Saints Cosmas and Damian. People tend to connect the sword in the left shield with one found in the Cathedral Treasury. This sword, however, is much younger [10].
